Coming off a whirlwind week in New York, doing the walk-up for Friday’s release of Glorious, her debut album, Kate Hudson finds herself on the cover of PEOPLE’s May 17 issue. To celebrate the journey of a lifetime, recognizing the power of music in her life and realizing what could’ve stayed an impossible dream, she opened up to the magazine, she talks about the fear that held her back and the bottomless joy she’s finding in this process.
“It’s crazy once you start, what you learn about yourself,” the Oscar-nominated Hudson admits, “and the way the universe opens up and embraces you for taking the chance. Having PEOPLE actually dig into this story with us, after all the years of documenting my life as much as my career, felt very full circle in a way. It’s been such a journey to this place, I almost can’t believe we’re here! But we are, and well, hello, world! It’s all glorious.”

After her packed unofficial debut at West Hollywood’s legendary SIR Studios during Grammy week, Hudson has thrilled people with her appearances on The Tonight Show, Today and an extended profile on CBS Sunday Morning, as well as a no-holds-barred performance/appearance on SiriusXM’s Howard Stern Show. Rocking an invite-only NYC showcase at Cipriani last week, Hudson will make her ticketed debut at Los Angeles’ 1,500 capacity Bellwether on Saturday, May 18. Tickets are still available.
Independently recorded and realized, Hudson worked with Fujikawa and Carlsson to create a sound that manages to be both fresh and somehow familiar. Distributed by groundbreaking Virgin Records, home to iconoclasts and shape shifters including Lenny Kravitz, Florence + the Machine, Iggy Pop, Janet Jackson and the Rolling Stones, GLORIOUS will be celebrated with a show at Los Angeles’ Bellwether, the 1500-capacity independent tastemaker room.
