Damon Johnson Announces New Solo Album, ‘Memoirs Of An Uprising’

by Cameron Arndt

Guitarist Damon Johnson will release his latest record on November 9th. Titled ‘Memoirs Of An Uprising’ the album was funded via a successful Pledge Music campaign and is his third full-length solo release, following 2000’s debut Dust and the follow up Release which was issued in 2010.

Johnson has, of course, not been idle in the intervening time. His illustrious career includes stints with Alice Cooper and Thin Lizzy, as main songwriter/guitarist and vocalist in Brother Cane, and three recent albums with Lizzy offshoot Black Star Riders.

The album - currently being mixed and mastered by Johnson - will have ten tracks which will be available on both CD and vinyl. A range of extra options available on the Pledge site include signed CDs, merch, guitar lessons, signed guitars, acoustic house performances and even a round of golf with Damon. Johnson elaborates, “The fact that I’m getting to make this album at all is purely down to the support and love you all have shown for my music over the past three decades. And as I discussed this fact with PledgeMusic, they have encouraged me to “un-earth” and make available one-of-a-kind items during this campaign”

“This is the first time for me to work with PledgeMusic as a solo artist. And the catalyst is absolutely this new music I’ve created” he goes on, “The songs are inspired and my band (Tony, Jarred & Tony) played and sound amazing as always. And I feel these songs deserve as much exposure as possible, even in this day and age where the business of making and distributing music has change dramatically.”

Johnson recently announced his shock departure from Black Star Riders, having been a mainstay of the band since it spun off from Thin Lizzy in 2012. As one of the main songwriters and principle architects of the band’s sound it was a surprise when he revealed his intention to leave and focus on his solo career. The new album will be the first taste of his new direction as he prepares to leave BSR at the end of the year. He will, however, be continuing his acoustic duo project with Black Star Riders’ frontman, Ricky Warwick. The pair have just wrapped up their most recent ‘Sonic Acoustic Attack’ which covered much of the UK and Europe.
