X-Factor to be decided via Facebook votes?

in Latest

A report in The Sun newspaper has claimed that X-Factor bosses are in talks with Facebook to create a means for users to be able to vote on the hit TV talent show.

If plans are to go ahead then it could see fans voting to save their favourite acts through the social networking site in time for the launch of the new X-Factor US show due to hit the small screens in the autumn.

The plans would see Facebook users buying credits to be able to vote on the show, similar to credits already bought for use in games on the network. Any votes that are not used would then be carried over to the next week to be able to once again be used to save a favourite act on the show.

It is claimed that talks between British television network ITV and US network Fox are already taking place with Facebook which would see the Facebook system run alongside the original phone voting method.

Last year the ITV series, which was eventually won by Matt cardle, attracted over 15 million phone votes, the introduction of Facebook into the equation could be a huge boost to the show even if only a small percentage of the 550 million Facebook users take part in the voting.

Already Facebook is used as a tool to discuss the show and the performances with forums and wall postings relating to each episode flooding the site, this would then prove to be a natural progression in moving talk about the X-Factor on facebook into a lucrative business and potentially huge money spinner for the already massively popular show which is due to hit stateside in only a matter of months.
