Leading London music school ICMP is delighted to welcome acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and Simple Minds musical director The Anchoress for an exclusive masterclass.

Taking place on Thursday 19th April, the event will see The Anchoress (aka Catherine Anne Davis) in conversation with Sweet Billy Pilgrim songwriter and ICMP Creative Musicianship tutor Tim Elsenburg.

As a solo act, songwriter and collaborator, Catherine is one of contemporary pop’s most exciting artists. She works as musical director with music legends Simple Minds while also features on the latest album, ‘Resistance is Futile’, from Welsh rockers The Manic Street Preachers and will be supporting them at this year’s Meltdown Festival curated by The Cure’s Robert Smith.

Her debut album, ‘Confessions of A Romance Novelist’ (written and co-produced by Davies) was released in 2016 on Kscope to widespread critical acclaim, named among the Guardian critics’ Albums of the Year, won HMV’s Welsh Album of the Year, Best Newcomer at the PROG awards, and a nomination for Welsh Music Prize.

As a co-writer, she has worked alongside a variety of well-established names including Ed Harcourt (Paloma Faith, James Bay) Liam Howe (Marina & the Diamonds) and Paul Statham (Kylie, Dido).

Alongside her music career, Catherine holds a PhD in English Literature from University College London (specialising in poetics) and was appointed ‘Emerging Artist in Residence’ at the Southbank Centre in London during her studies.

The event will see her discuss her music industry experiences as well as various music projects and is free to ICMP students and alumni. Limited places are available to the general public – please events@icmp.ac.uk to register your interest in attending.
