Chicago-born, LA-based Alexander Glantz – known as Alexander 23 – is generating a heck of a lot of interest. Signed to Interscope Records, the singer, songwriter and multiinstrumentalist spent the majority of 2019 on the road, including spots opening for Alec Benjamin.

Glantz then dropped his nine-track EP I’m Sorry I Love You last year to rave reviews and has racked up the streams and column inches with his compelling, slightly lo-fi indie pop. His song Another Summer Night Without You was featured on the American smash-hit teen show Thirteen Reasons Why, while his previous single IDK You Yet has reached almost 100 million plays on Spotify alone.

His latest single, Brainstorm, was released his week and is set to build on the young star’s upward momentum. It’s another storming effort, a deeply melodic and hypnotising affair that sees Glantz sing: “You say the building is burning down / But I see no smoke down from the ground / You swear to God the stairs are melting but I see they’re safe and sound / You say the building’s burning down”.

Writing on his official Facebook page about the track, he said: “Brainstorm is out everywhere right now and I mean every single word of it. This song taught me a lot. Sometimes the words to describe how we feel are out of reach and this song is meant to keep you company in those moments.” He added: “I’ve never been more emotionally connected to a song than this one. I am equally heartbroken to let it go and excited to see the place it finds in your life. I hope the weather in your head is sunny, but if not I hope that this song can keep you company in the meantime.”

There are comparisons to be made with fellow Interscope signee and rising star Role Model, though Glantz’s work is perhaps the more introspective and low key. He certainly makes for compelling listening, and with Brainstorm, he’ll only find his stock rising.
