David Guetta’s take on Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’ is scintillating enough without losing any of the charms of the original number. Guetta works his usual bit of magic and ends up transforming what was a gentle, whimsical composition into a glamorous, exhilarating affair. ‘Dreams’, as many would know, achieved widespread attention this year after Nathan Apodaca of Idaho Falls posted a TikTok in which he was seen riding on his longboard, drinking Ocean Spray, and lip-syncing to the iconic Fleetwood Mac tune. The video went viral, launched a number of recreations, created a trend, and spawned a couple of thousand memes. Both Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood of the band also joined in on the trend.

The original ‘Dreams’ began charting on Spotify and Apple Music charts, so it’s only natural that someone would create an official remix/cover of the hit. David Guetta has been putting his twist on famous songs for a while now, and he has a knack for paying homage to these old classics whilst bringing them up to contemporary styles and tastes. His production is seamless and maintains that same sense of magical dreaminess but his instrumentation builds a sense of sparkling chaos and hypnosis, something that only David Guetta could layer on. The chorus doesn’t feature any vocals, as opposed to the original; instead, it has a synth-heavy melody that keeps on repeating and repeating till the bass drops into something manic and intoxicating. Lanie Gardner provides the vocals for this number; the young artist has stunned the internet with her own cover of the classic track on YouTube, so really, the collaboration is a match made in heaven.

The year has been a downer for most people out there, but the TikTok video and the resurgence of this wonderful Fleetwood Max mix have boosted morale and reminded the public of the possibilities that exist beyond our wildest imaginations. If nothing else, David Guetta’s remix should play out well in club settings but it’s also a breathtaking demonstration of what happens when two genres of music combine. With Fleetwood Mac’s soothing melody and Guetta’s empowering production, a beautiful work of art has been produced.
