Two years ago, Taylor Swift’s very public battle with Scooter Braun over the rights to her back catalogue was huge news. “This was my worst case scenario” Swift wrote at the time in an emotional Tumblr post that blew up, and while the legal wrangling left Swift and her fans in an unfortunate position, many would argue she had the last laugh when she announced her decision to re-record her old music.

This week, Swift released You All Over Me, one of six previously unreleased songs that will be featured on her upcoming re-released version of her second album Fearless. The dive into the archives allowed Swift to develop the song from its original version, taking it in a new direction and calling in the help of another star to work on the track.

Writing on her official Facebook page on the eve of the release of the new single, Swift said: “I wanted to let you know that the first “From The Vault” song I’m releasing from Fearless (Taylor’s Version) comes out tomorrow at midnight eastern. It’s called You All Over Me (From The Vault). One thing I’ve been loving about these From The Vault songs is that they’ve never been heard, so I can experiment, play, and even include some of my favourite artists. I’m really excited to have Maren Morris sing background vocals on this song!!”

Maren Morris has recently bagged herself three CMA Awards, and has fast become one of the leading female voices in modern country music. Maren posted a picture of Taylor Swift on Twitter earlier with a thankyou message: “My favorite thing that I don’t get to do very often is to slip into someone’s world and just harmonize”.

To all intents and purposes, that makes You All Over Me a brand new song, and a new Taylor Swift song is guaranteed to be big news. It’s a gentle country song, built around piano and acoustic guitar, with Swift’s distinctive rich vocals telling a love story as she sings: “The best and worst day of June / Was the one that I met you / With your hands in your pockets / And your ‘don't you wish you had me’ grin”.

Fearless (Taylor’s Version) lands on April 9, and rumours have been flying around about possible guest appearances, collaborations and new songs that could all appear. We’ve still got a couple of weeks to wait to find out, but in the meantime, You All Over Me (From The Vault) whets the appetite for what is bound to be one of the biggest releases of the year.
