Review: Firewind Prove They Are “Still Raging” with 20th Anniversary CD and Blu-Ray

Greek power metal legends Firewind have exploded back onto the scene with a stunning new live album, “Still Raging.” The release celebrates the band’s official 20th anniversary, recorded at Principal Club Theatre in Greece in 2022.
Words can scarcely describe this one, you truly need to see and hear it for yourself. Not only is Firewind’s performance on point, but the energy from their home city crowd is just electric. You can feel the fans hanging on every note and aching for more, as they urge the band on and lose themselves in this brilliant display of power metal.
The release is two-fold. Available on a double CD as well as Blu-ray. You can feast your eyes and ears on twenty of their most beloved tracks and join in with the passion of the live crowd on every single song.
Firewind are one of those bands that far surpass themselves when they play live. Their studio stuff is great, but nothing can beat their furious and relentless power as they deliver a live show.
Vocalist Herbie Langans has taken to Firewind’s earlier material like a duck to water since joining. His raw grit and voracity soars above the music to create the perfect narrative for every track. Johann Nunez (drums) and Petros Christodoulidis (bass) carry the backbone of each song and set up a scaffold for each song that manages to feel both classic and surprising. And then there’s Gus G, formerly Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist, who delivers some of the most impressive guitar work seen this year.
With “Still Raging,” Firewind offer the perfect blend of old and new, expertly showcasing their skills in front of a crowd filled with nothing but love for them. It is quite possibly the best live album so far of 2023, owing to the wonderful mix of ideal ingredients to create not just a live album and Blu-Ray, but an entire experience that will stay with you long after you’ve enjoyed it.
