Composed by former Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s drummer Cliff Martinez, Brexit Big Band leader Matthew Herbert and renowned producer Bobby Krlic aka The Haxan Cloak

Milan Records announce the release of three distinct soundtracks for some of this summer’s most highly anticipated films and TV series. Celebrated for having one of the most impressive OST rosters in the industry, Milan Records is at the forefront of music and film with previous soundtracks ranging from the likes of Pan’s Labyrinth, Ghost and The Queen to Loving Vincent, Jackie, Green Book and Black Mirror’s recent Smithereens.

Too Old To Die Young OST – Cliff Martinez

Grammy-nominated American film composer and former Red Hot Chilli Peppers drummer, Cliff Martinez has created a powerful backdrop to this American crime drama series with a 25-track, avant-garde score that employs ambient synths, haunting strings and monochromatic textures that will whisk away any feeling of safety in this dark, psychological story.

Too Old to Die Young will be Martinez’ fourth collaboration with Director Nicolas Winding Refn, following the success of Drive, which won Martinez a Broadcast Film Critics Award. He has also composed the soundtrack for multiple films by Steven Soderbergh including Traffic, which having won three Academy Awards and two Golden Globes, also earned Martinez a Grammy-nomination.

Written and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the 10-episode series Too Old To Die Young follows a Los Angeles police officer (played by Sundance Film Festival Award Winner Miles Teller) who, along with the man who shot his colleague, enters a criminal underworld, including hit men, Yakuza syndicates, Cartel assassins, the Russian mafia, and homicidal teenage gangs. The series stars William Baldwin, Jena Malone and John Hawkes

July 5th:

Gloria Bell OST – Matthew Herbert

British musician Matthew Herbert is a daring and masterful producer. In 2006, he brought together 635 musicians for one of his albums “Scale” and founded the audio-visual project; the Brexit Big Band, which culminated in an album The State Between Us earlier this year. With “Gloria Bell”, Herbert composes an accurate and extraordinary soundtrack of a woman of her time.

Gloria Bell (Julianne Moore) is a free-spirited divorcee, spending her days at a straight-laced job and her nights on the dance floors. After meeting Arnold (John Turturro) on a night out, she finds herself thrust into an unexpected new romance, filled with both the joys of budding love and the complications of dating.

Chilean director Sebastian Lelio is famous for depicting women who live, love and continue to do so despite many setbacks. The instrumental soundtrack alternates between tender tracks, fairy tales look-alike music and powerful hits.

July 12th:

Midsommar OST – Bobby Krlic

Midsommar is the highly-anticipated film release from Ari Aster, the director of the smash horror film, Hereditary. The complete score was composed by Bobby Krlic aka The Haxan Cloak.

Krlic has been releasing his own electronic music for the better part of the past decade under the moniker of The Haxan Cloak. It was his solo output that led to working with Aster on this new film: Aster had heard Krlic’s work and wrote the whole script entirely to his music.

In addition to the more traditional underscore, Krlic was also responsible for the music that exists within the narrative of the film itself, the music that the characters play and sing inside the film. The script was written so the characters would have these wordless, atonal, ritualistic songs. So, Aster and Krlic developed a vocal language for the characters in the film to sing and sourced all traditional Nordic instruments, like such as a Hurdy Gurdy and a Key Harp, to record with.

The film, which dives deep into Swedish folklore and a kind of technicolour paganism, asked for a sonic universe that was both insular and oddly timeless—something by turns darkly ritualistic and deeply beautiful.
