Taken from his recent album 'This Eternal Life', the song was written, recorded and produced by James Parkinson at his home studio in Barnoldswick. The track was mixed by John Meredith of ARMYOUREARS and mastered by Pete Maher.
One Cure For Man is the name that has derived from Jame’s initial solo projects; which he has now become known as.
Not Close Enough was written as a tribute to James' father Allan Parkinson (ex founding member and guitarist of Slack Alice and Dark Horse) 1949 to 2017, who tragically died on stage performing with James. The song explores the feelings and emotions of playing side by side for many years together as well as celebrating his legacy as a musician and songwriter. His charisma and talent was undeniable and he had a huge influence on many musicians and no more so than on James. The song was influenced by bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Alice and Chains and the Manic Street Preachers.
The video was shot by Jason Marshall of I Am Eye Video in James' hometown, Barnoldswick and features Allan's white Charvel/Jackson guitar as well as his hand written lyrics interspersed with performance shots of James with additional animation and shadow puppets.
Already picking up some great feedback, here's what artist C-Beem had to say about it:
Spacey vocals wash in waves throughout another heart-felt composition: sweet, but not cloyingly so, with more generous portions of guitar audio-candy. James loves guitar, that is plain, in the unabashed spirit of Knophler, Gilmore and Clapton, but when other artists might be tempted to plug themselves into a mountain of exotic effects in Loving Memory of Radiohead ( yawn ), James prefers to take it back with the right notches. An amp that goes to eleven? Not likely. James sounds great without synthetic overdrives: plumbing for a refreshingly authentic sound, curiously free of stuffy nostalgia.
