Recently, the popular Nigerian-American artist Jidenna announced that he will be dropping a new project titled “85 To Africa” on August 23rd. He previews the release of his upcoming project with two new singles: “Tribe” and “Sufi Woman”.

The song “Tribe” brings a sound that we haven’t heard from classic man Jidenna in a minute. Produced by C Gutta and Mike & Keys, Jidenna raps about the importance of surrounding yourself with a group of people who will ride hard for you no matter what. In addition to addressing clout chasers and people who constantly pray on his downfall, Jidenna also utilizes his rapping skills on this track to switch up his lyrical flow multiple times, making “Tribe” a song worth listening to on repeat.

Quotable Lyrics

Put your pride in a trash bin. Too much ego in the captions

Dont get swept up like a Tesla, you aint really need to gassin

Hate to see my n*ggas clashin.

Hate to plot, love the catsing

Tryna catch a n*gga lacking. Bet the tribe will outlast him

“Sufi Woman” takes a different turn with Jidenna highlighting his Nigerian roots. The Afrobeat led track produced by Nana Kwabena features the artist’s singing side. Throughout the song, he paints of picture of a mesmerizing and very seductive woman that is so attractive she has possibly put him in a trance. Nevertheless,  the bright and upbeat track is one you can't help but get up and move around to despite the questionable lyrics about such a mysterious woman.

Quotable Lyrics

Sufi woman

Read me Rumi till i fall asleep upon your bosom

Sufi woman

Youre a lion but you walk around so unassuming

Gypsy, gypsy woman we gon dance until we dizzy

...

You gon shine your eye, you gon put it on me

Put a little spell on me

Wha-ting you do to me

You no go walk on me

You go, you go see

“85 to Africa” will be the first musical project Jidenna has released since his debut album “The Chief” back in 2017. With “Sufi Woman” and “Tribe” already receiving so much buzz, we can anticipate a great piece of work coming from the artist.
