Dublin four piece The Riptide Movement have returned to action with the release of new single Something Special, and the announcement of a nine-date UK and Irish tour – dubbed The Something Special Tour – this autumn.
The track is the second release from their upcoming E.P. due out later this year, after previous single I’ll Be There – accompanied by a 2D live action animated music video created by BAFTA award winning Jam Media – earned rave reviews back in May.
Formed way back in 2006, the group have gained a loyal following and earned a reputation for their energetic live performances and bouncy, guitar-driven tracks.
With four albums under their belt, including their most recent offering Ghosts in 2016 and Getting Through in 2014 which hit number one in the Irish charts, the band have decided to make their next release a seven-track E.P.
Speaking to the Irish Daily Mirror about that decision, lead singer and guitarist Mal Tuohy said: “We will always be very much an album band. I guess our thought process behind it (the EP) is there’s been a change in landscape of the music industry, particularly with streaming and Spotify.
“With streaming now, it’s like you release an album and maybe two tracks are the ones that everybody listens to and the rest of the tracks are left there. We’re going to release the E.P. on vinyl, which we’re still a big believer in. So, our idea is there’s seven tracks on it – so it’s kind of a mini album.”
The forthcoming E.P., also titled Something Special, is due for release on September 27th.
