Carlos Vara’s new track ‘Want Me To’ is a pop smash and if there is any justice in the world, should catapult this Nashville-based artist to being a household name based on his striking voice alone.

For starters, the track does not stick to any one genre or gimmick; it experiments with a diverse range of sounds, instruments and vocal styles--as a result, the listeners get to relish an exhilarating, electric thunderbolt of a tune. Vara has revealed some of his most significant musical influences include Freddie Mercury, George Michael and Janis Joplin, and it is evident from his incredible vocal choices that their astonishing soul lives through his intricate sound.

Vara proves himself to be highly capable at mastering the runs, the charged refrains and the controlled drags and build-ups---it is a tremendous showcase of how his voice can be drawn out to express an emotional quality that is both wholesome and maddening. While the song begins with a couple of heavy bass chords giving way to a breezy, reggae-trap sound, courtesy of a clever interplay of synths and guitar, the first couple of lines lead to a hard drop---this is when those jazz undertones appear on the surface.

However, those bass drops recur throughout the song, grounding Vara’s magnetic voice as it slides and oozes through the notes. His choices in enunciation are also very intriguing and mysterious so that listeners have to do a little bit legwork in figuring out the words and their meanings. Vara fully infuses his sensual, irresistible voice with the frustrations of a lovesick man helpless against the affections of his lover---someone who is tired of all he is made to go through in the name of love but also someone who is willing to drop everything for them. As is customary for most of Carlos Vara’s songs in his esteemed discography, he manages the quite impossible feat of communicating volumes of meanings through simple, relatable lyrics, something that is going to endear him to a lot of new fans.
