Pop sensation Gabrielle Aplin returns with a groundbreaking new album ‘Dear Happy’: a dazzling, groundbreaking and emotionally resonant EP that reflects on the leaps and bounds Aplin has made over the years.
She may have begun her career as a Youtube cover artist but her original music went on to feature at some of the most exciting venues both in the UK as well as in the United States and Japan. In ‘Dear Happy’, Aplin does not only take active measures in learning more about herself, but she also sets out to convey optimism and positivity through the record.
Speaking on her motivations behind the album, she says, “Sonically I wanted to capture these moments and experiences in a positive light. I want to listen back to these songs in 5 years and hear happiness and positivity.” And her decisive, self-assured attitude is faithfully followed through in the sound. For example, one of the most notable songs on the album, ‘Kintsugi’ is a fun, flashy, catchy electropop track that not only allows Aplin to unleash her thoughts about her struggles but it also incorporates some intriguing, fresh and unique Japanese tones into the mix.
Aplin has revealed that ‘Kintsugi’ is indeed based on her experiences touring through Japan, where she summons the country’s exquisite culture into inspiring her through her everlasting journey. Yet the album is not restricted by any one genre or style: Aplin thoughtfully chooses to express herself through a variety of notes. The piano-heavy power ballads remarkably capture her innocent, honest soul while the groovy, synth-based electronica tracks just focus on having a good time amidst the challenges. She proves herself to be an amazing songwriter, someone who has only grown and evolved over the years. She said it best herself, “It’s an album that is a past, present and future letter to myself”.
Listeners will look forward to more endeavours on part of Gabrielle Aplin, and her passion for life will also be displayed through her involvement in H&M’s sustainable clothing line---something she has taken on as a dear project as she continues advocating for animal rights and sustainability.
