Brian Fallon’s latest offering ‘You Have Stolen My Heart’ invokes the spirit of romance through its raw, honest and passionate lyrics---an unflinching and heartfelt glimpse of a relationship in its ups and lows, challenging but rewarding.

Even if the single does not outwardly hint at the Christmas season, the instrumentation is marked by the familiar sounds of the holiday; the triangles, the bells, and the measured strings sprinkled through the verses. It will do well to remind the listeners that Christmas is built by the strength of love and togetherness, a tremendously romantic concept that is fleshed out in this song.

The black-and-white music video instills a classic, nostalgic aura into the story, as Fallon and his lover linger atop a car, basking in each other’s company, relishing the chilly morning and the purest scenes of nature. Fallon’s raspy, profound vocals convey a folk-inspired touch, allowing the track to adopt another style into how it expresses its themes of infatuation and memory. The lyrics point at an epic, sweeping romance---one that is not forgotten or overcome but it’s all-encompassing and undeniable. He recalls the “colors in [her] mysterious eyes”, watching her “float cross the floor”, almost as an effect of an effervescent enchantment. Regardless of the cryptic themes offered by the lyrics, the song is pleasing to the ear and the soul, as it establishes how Fallon has been mastering the industry for more than twenty years.

Usually known as a longstanding member of The Gaslight Anthem, Fallon has gone through a couple of bands in the past decade, including The Horrible Crowes and Molly and the Zombies before deciding on a solo career that he has been successfully fulfilling in the past couple of years. This song is part of his upcoming album Local Honey, slated to be released in 2020. Speaking on the songwriting process in Local Honey, he says:

There’s nothing on this record that has to do with the past or even the future, it just has to do with the moments that are presented and things that I’ve learned and I’m finding in my day to day.”
