Hinds’ are a force to be reckoned with: they are bursting with wide-eyed millennial madness, a kaleidoscopic flair not seen since the eighties and acerbic, fascinating angst rendering them as one of the more curious girl groups of the decade.

Their new single ‘Riding Solo’ showcases all the attributes that have endeared them to their fans in recent years: dashing electric rock instrumentation, engrossing aesthetics showcasing a range of distinct personalities, outfits, mannerisms, and quirks, and robust energy that does not appear to let up. They hail from Madrid, having formed their band in 2011, and so far have released two studio albums, Leave Me Alone and I Don’t Run. Their sound inhabits a space long dominated by male-centric bands such as Passion Pit and MGMT, so their work represents far more for female rockers than initially suggested. 

‘Riding Solo’ is a cryptic love song, steeped in a sense of lackadaisical chaos ---something the lyrics do well to capture. The women make references to being disoriented and distracted as they travel and tour, slipping away from their close ones and losing themselves amidst the lights, the sounds and the people they come across. It is a complex but quite a relatable topic for the youth, and the music video also exemplifies this vein of boredom. Sunburnt, careless yet conspicuous, the girls stare point-blank at the camera, basking in the attention, desperate to get their message across. The instrumentation is marked by faded whistles, overlapping vocals, and mesmerizing electric guitar runs, giving the listeners a lot to absorb over the course of the song. 

Their longtime fans would hope that their latest single is part of an impending album but nothing concrete has been announced so far. They do have dates announced for an extensive tour across the UK and Europe, taking place across April of 2020. Speaking on how they decide on themes for their album, their lead singer Carlotta Cosials says:

We don’t follow too many rules about music in general. We know the vocals are pretty….loud. We know sometimes it can even sound disturbing. But we like that.”
