In ‘Like I Love Me’, Louisa Johnson goes through the revealing, magical and ultimately rewarding journey of loving herself for everything she is.

It is a tender song that does not shy away from the harsh realities imposed upon the young singer-songwriter in the public eye, and Johnson approaches it with wisdom, vulnerability and a whole lot of self-love. The accompanying music video is prefaced by black-on-white text, noting how it is an ‘ongoing journey’ to love one’s body, which Louisa promptly signs. For a pop sensation who has been making headwaves through the country for her glamorous, artistic electropop-heavy persona, it is remarkable to see her strip down to her core, both emotionally and physically,

For most of the music video, she is clad in nothing but her essentials, demonstrating not just the level of comfort she has attained with regard to be in her most natural self but how she decidedly presents her ‘every mark, every scar, every imperfection’. These bold choices serve to remind her how much she’s grown and they also function as a point of inspiration for so many young people out there, listening to her music devotedly. The soft acoustic guitar strings in the background establish a gentle mood for the melody so that Louisa’s vocals can have space to get those thoughtful, honest words out.

Louisa Johnson has been hard at work for a couple of years now after initially emerging on the scene through her performances on the X-Factor UK. She ended up winning the competition and she followed up that success with her work on some chart-busting singles, including ‘Tears’ with Clean Bandit and her solo effort ‘So Good’. Her popularity skyrocketed as she co-headlined the Jingle Bell Ball for two consecutive years at London’s O2 Arena. ‘Like I Love Me’ is released as a celebration of her newfound partnership with American clothing company USA Pro. She has been quite outspoken about her health struggles that have emerged in the past year or so and has taken the moment to speak out about self-love, body image, and mental wellbeing.
