The proclaimed Drake of country music has blessed us with another amazing project, his new album Southside.

Sam Hunt began his rise to popularity back in high school as a football quarterback. The NFL prospect soon became the Nashville heartthrob of music. Hunt released his debut album Montevallo back in 2014 and since then has been a fan favorite in the country music scene. Despite already being a country music icon, Sam Hunt’s Southside is only his second studio album. When looking at his impressive discography, some of his most popular tracks including “House Party” and “Take Your Time” from Montevallo have racked up over 200 million streams on Spotify to-date. His new album Southside has reached the same amount of popularity, with some songs racking up millions of plays in just a matter of days. 

For the album cover, we see Hunt standing outside a cozy home, with a dog on a leash and an old truck making a sneaky appearance. If you take your focus to the lower right-hand side of the image, you’ll see in block lettering the album title, “Southside”.

A few tracks featured on Southside made their debut before the album. “Nothing Lasts Forever”, a record that the country superstar debuted live back in 2017, has already become a crowd favorite. Additionally, we get the track “Kinfolks'' on this album, a song Hunt released late 2019. According to The Boot, the song received praise for being in line with the pop and hip-hop-influenced sound for which Sam Hunt became known for. On Southside we get a mixture of religious love songs such as “Sinning With You” and country classics like “Hard to Forget''. When talking about his music-making process the artist shares: “I try to make music that’s relevant to my life and relatable to the culture I live in. Putting out music as it’s made, versus holding it until an album’s finished, allows me to be more timely and maintain balance.” via Billboard. Although many of us are stuck in the house listening to the new album due to the global pandemic, Sam Hunt hinted at a tour for his new project on Twitter.
