Legendary artists Sir Elton John and Sir Rod Stewart have officially ended an almost three-year feud, which all started over Stewart commenting that John’s 2018 farewell tour was “dishonest,” accusing his former friend of just wanting to sell tickets. John fired back in his autobiography, “Me,” stating I thought he had a f**king cheek, complaining about me promoting a tour while he was sat on a TV show promoting his own tour.”
And back and forth it went, with the pair trading insults and snide remarks toward one another. But that all ended this week, with Stewart confirming on “The Harry Redknapp Show” podcast that the pair had reaffirmed their friendship.
John has recently stated he bears “no grudges” toward Stewart, commenting that the pair had enjoyed a fierce, but friendly rivalry throughout their lengthy careers:
“Rod and I have always had this kind of rivalry, but it’s always been very friendly, and it’s always been funny, and I love him to death. We’ve had this rivalry for a long time, and it’s been very, very funny, and I love him dearly, and if I saw him in the street, I’d give him the biggest hug. There’s no point in carrying on vendettas in this world. Life’s too short. Honestly, I don’t bear any grudges about him whatsoever.”
John also noted that he had sought to repair the rift only a few months after it had started, however his attempts were shut down when Stewart would not take his calls, citing needing “constant vocal rest” between shows. In response to this, John had markedly pointed out that Stewart’s need for “vocal rest” did not seem to include needing to abstain from appearing on talk shows.
So, what prompted Stewart to finally call quits on their recent disagreement? His kids. He explained that he wanted to set a good example for his eight children and felt he could not rightfully tell them to apologise to people if he was not doing so himself. He acknowledged the playful rivalry the two had previously shared, prior to things turning ugly:
“We’ve always been fierce enemies, as you know, through the years, but it’s always been at a playful level. But we had the worst row, like a married couple. It went on forever,” Stewart admitted, “I was a bit spiteful when he announced his tour. I regret it, I really do regret it. So, we’re mates again now. I do love him.”
