JONES’ recent single ‘Around’ expanded the breadth of her sound, adding the rhythmic grooves of London’s contemporary underground jazz scene to her core pop and soul roots. It was a twist that took her back to Radio 1’s airwaves with repeated plays from tastemaker trio Rickie, Melvin and Charlie who compared it to “The Internet meets Cleo Sol” while further support included BBC Introducing London, Jazz FM and Hoxton Radio.

Next from JONES is her brand new single ‘Read My Mind’, which is out now. It represents the second taste of her eagerly anticipated new EP ‘Blue Sunshine’ which follows next month.

‘Read My Mind’ matches the sublime summer atmospherics that JONES delivered with ‘Around’. This time, the production from JONES’ co-writer Oli Barton-Wood (Nubiyan Twist, Nilüfer Yanya) is even more subtle: delicate sprinklings of guitar, an unhurried and unobtrusive beat, and bass grooves that drift with a calming ambience. It provides the space for JONES to experiment with the most serene side to her classy voice, effortlessly adorning her topline with an abundance of dreamy, cooed backing vocals.

JONES says, “In this song I was half mocking myself and all the impossible things I want in a relationship, but judging from conversations with female friends I'm not the only one!”

‘Read My Mind’ adds to her growing momentum ahead of the ‘Blue Sunshine’ EP. Featuring collaborations with Nardeydey (Nérija, Maisha, Seed Ensemble) and new jazz pioneer Joe Armon-Jones, the EP is atmospherically perfectly in tune with its title. It finds JONES adding subtle touches that reflect her admiration for Steve Lacy, HNNY and Tame Impala to flavours inspired by her long-term influences Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley.

Next month will also see JONES return to the stage with a high profile show at the Summer By The River Festival on September 16th. Hosted by BBC Music Introducing in London, the show will be held at The Scoop by City Hall on the southbank of the Thames. The station will also be broadcasting highlights from her set.

From her debut album ‘New Skin’ to more recent releases such as the ‘Camera Flash’ EP and ‘Giving It Up’, JONES has consistently shown a talent that has resulted in attention from Radio 1, Radio 2, 1XTRA, Capital XTRA and Jools Holland. Originally from Aldate, east London, JONES first came to prominence as in-demand collaborator for artists such as Claptone, HONNE and CAZZETTE.
