Busking her way to superstardom, 23-year-old Liv Harland enjoyed a huge and unconventional breakthrough year in 2021. Her busking performances have shown her ability to create emotionally engaging memorable IRL moments with people from all walks of life. Remarkably, several of those moments have gone viral on a huge scale, resulting in over 1.5 million followers and 28 million likes on TikTok alone.
Her livestreams often attract an audience big enough to fill London’s O2, and she achieved three of TikTok’s Top 10 live moments of 2021 - making her the only female artist on the list, as well as the only artist to have multiple moments on a list that features global names such as Ed Sheeran, KSI and Coldplay. She is making a similar impact at YouTube, most notably with a video of her halting a song to help a homeless man. That moment of kindness resulted in Liv joining the good karma club, as the clip was greeted by a phenomenal public reaction and is now approaching 45 million views.
Now Liv Harland steps from the retail centre to the radio waves as she shares her official debut single ‘Letters’, which is out now via frtyfve. Listen below.
‘Letters’ is a very natural progression for the young artist. Its poignant themes of regret and love lost adds a fresh dimension to her big-hearted viral moments, while its timeless song structure also makes it perfectly suited for live performances. But the song is also infused with an inventive range of modernist pop production flourishes, which helps translate her natural and hugely engaging performance to the world of streaming.
Liv says, “It’s been over a year since I released new music and I’m so proud to come back with this single! Heading over to Copenhagen to record with Cutfather was a highlight to my 2021 and now I’m ready to show the world what I’ve been working on. I hope you guys love it as much as I do. This song is for anyone who let go of their past and got over an ex.”
Liv collaborated on ‘Letters’ with the producers and songwriters Cutfather (Little Mix, Becky Hill), Moa Pettersson Hammar (Ava Max, Sam Feldt), Scott Quinn (KSI), and Jeppe London.
Originally from York, Liv started busking while employed as a full-time childcare worker. She quickly created enough of a buzz to make busking and live-streaming her new career. As her viral moments came thick and fast, she started picking up attention from Radio 1, BBC Breakfast, LadBible, The Guardian, The Times, NME and more. Liv released a cover of Dani & Lizzy’s ‘Dancing In The Sky’ on Spotify and then introduced her artist career with the self-released ‘What A Lie’, which has exceeded 2 million streams.
Liv’s story will continue to explode in the year ahead, with further big collaborators and UK headline shows to follow.
