After completing a UK and Ireland headline tour as well as collaborating with Swedish dance star Oliver Nelson on ‘Long Summer Nights’, Lilla Vargen today releases ‘The Lucky One’, her first solo track of 2022. The Northern Irish singer-songwriter has previously toured arenas with Dermot Kennedy, picked up Radio 1 and RTÉ airplay, and hit numerous New Music Friday playlists on the way to exceeding 30 million streams to date.

‘The Lucky One’ is a compelling reintroduction to Lilla Vargen’s immense talent. Needing little more than the simple accompaniment of a piano, her show-stopping vocal gift possesses a masterly technique with the ability to convey the sorrow of the situation that she is exploring. Watch the video below.  As Lilla explains, ‘The Lucky One’ is also a song that’s open to interpretation.

She says, “‘The Lucky One’ is a song about loss. Not just the loss of romantic love throughout life but also the loss of someone close to me who passed away at a very young age. It was difficult to navigate the feeling of grief and it still is. It’s something that never goes away. We blame ourselves for not being better friends, or better partners, but in reality life goes on, no matter what we do. This song is about a journey through grief." Listen below.

Lilla Vargen was raised in a music loving family in Ballymena, so it was no surprise that she started singing and writing her own songs in childhood. Although she was encouraged by friends and teachers, the first step to her hobby becoming something more came when a colleague overheard her singing while working in a hotel. He invited her to record at a friend’s studio, where Lilla put together her first collection of songs. The next step came when her then-boyfriend uploaded those songs to Bandcamp without so much as telling her. Suddenly there was a rush of industry attention and blog tips, all heralding Lilla as a big talent in the making.

Since then, Lilla has released two EPs, ‘Hold On’ and ‘We Were Thunder’, as well as a selection of standalone singles and a Mahogany Session. Fans became enamoured with her music, which balances revealing honesty, instant relatability and an undercurrent of optimism, with some critics comparing her favourably with Sia and Sara Bareilles. She has also played numerous high profile festivals, including Latitude, SXSW and The Great Escape.
