Vocal powerhouse Cassa Jackson is your go-to singer-songwriter for relatable, sassy songs about relationships. Her self-released songs, including ‘Suits U’ and ‘Parallel Universe’, have so far exceeded 11 million streams, leading to nominations at the AIM Awards (Best Live Performer) and America’s iHeartRadio Awards (TikTok Songwriter of the Year), as well as huge support shows with JLS and The Jacksons, plus a sold-out headline gig at London’s Omeara.
Now Cassa shares her brand new single ‘Right Girl, Wrong Guy’ as she prepares to step confidently into a huge UK arena tour as special guest to Blue. Listen below.
‘Right Girl, Wrong Guy’ shows that Cassa has everything it takes to be the surprise star of the tour, as she possesses the voice of a diva but the easy-going personality of the girl next door. Her bold and breathtaking take on modern pop begins modestly but quickly crashes into life with a dynamite rush of pop-punk energy. As we’ve come to expect from Cassa, it’s a tale of precarious romance drawn from personal experience. She takes no prisoners as she explores the underlying reason for a break up in this titular track of her upcoming EP (due for release in January 2023).
Cassa says, “It really frustrates me when people try to leave relationships and put it down to ‘right person, wrong time.’ This song is saying, ‘No, I’m not accepting that! Let’s be honest about why we’re over.’ The problem is rarely about being too young, it is usually about making no effort and not caring enough to stay. Singing this song to thousands of people in an arena is the best therapy to get over a bad romance!”
Cassa first discovered her love of performing while still at school, but never considered that a career as an artist was a realistic goal. But that changed when her teacher entered a song she wrote into a competition, which saw Cassa perform in the final in Westfield, London. In attendance that day was Voice In A Million creative director Jo Garofalo, who invited her to perform as a guest solo artist at their next charity event at Wembley Arena. When your first gig is at Westfield and your second is at Wembley, it’s clear that the sky's the limit.
Taking inspiration from artists such as Miley Cyrus, Halsey and Dua Lipa, Cassa’s soulful modern pop is full of autobiographical lyrics which detail the highs and lows of young love - in the process proving that strength is born from vulnerability. Her songs have taken her to festivals including the Isle of Wight Festival, Cambridge Club Festival and Mello Festival, while airplay has included substantial BBC support across BBC Introducing and numerous regional stations.
Cassa is not your average songwriter, with a First class Honours degree in French and Spanish, she has the versatility to write and perform in those languages too. Her international outlook has taken her to shows in Gran Canaria, and also to South Africa, where she performed on the nation’s leading morning TV programme Expresso Show and hit the Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival. She also featured as a special guest and had two of her songs soundtrack the hit sci-fi series ‘Pandora’, which is available on Sky, Now TV and Amazon in the UK.
