The distinguished Jhelisa is celebrating the 30th anniversary of her iconic debut album, Galactica Rush, with a special remastered edition. Released on September 26th, exactly 30 years after its original debut on Dorado Records, the album has been beautifully remastered in Hi-Res Audio by Miles Showell at Abbey Road from the original analogue masters and cut at half-speed onto vinyl. The vinyl edition will be available on October 25th.

Jhelisa originally released Galactica Rush in 1994, quickly earning acclaim from media outlets such as The Guardian, Time Out, NME, MOJO, and Mixmag. The album became a cornerstone of neo-soul, jazz-funk, and trip-hop, cementing Jhelisa as a trailblazer in these genres. With Jhelisa writing and co-producing the album herself, Galactica Rush remains a vital piece of musical history, influencing artists worldwide.

The album features standout tracks like the title song Galactica Rush, a free jazz masterpiece featuring Greg Osby on saxophone, as well as Whirl Keeps Turning, Hold My Peace, Sweet Dreams, and Death Of A Soul Diva, which was later covered by Chaka Khan. One of the album’s most enduring hits, Friendly Pressure, continues to thrive in the digital age. The Sunship “Into The Sunshine” remix recently went viral on TikTok, garnering over a billion views and pushing the track to No. 5 on the UK Club Chart.

Jhelisa, dubbed the “Cosmic princess of soul” by GQ, has consistently pushed the boundaries of music with her genre-defying sound. Born in Mississippi into a musical family that includes her aunt and uncle, Vicki Anderson and Bobby Byrd from James Brown's band, Jhelisa has carved out her own path in music. She has released four solo albums with Dorado Records, blending soul, trip-hop, jazz, and avant-garde influences.

Throughout her career, Jhelisa has worked with an impressive roster of artists including Björk, Massive Attack, The Shamen, and has toured with legends like James Brown, Herbie Hancock, and The Roots. She has also recorded with Chaka Khan and Bryan Ferry.

In 2022, Jhelisa surprised fans with the release of Oxygen, a track from her forthcoming fifth album Wild Orbits, due in 2025. The track was praised by Gilles Peterson, who hailed her return as “extraordinarily brilliant.”

The remastered version of Galactica Rush was engineered by Miles Showell, known for his work with The Beatles, Amy Winehouse, and Portishead. It was also remixed by Jimmy Douglass, whose credits include Aretha Franklin, Jay-Z, and Missy Elliott. The original artwork by Jason Brooks has been re-scanned in high resolution for the reissue, bringing the album's visuals to life with even more vibrancy.

Galactica Rush will be available digitally on Dorado Records starting September 26th, with the vinyl edition following on October 25th.
