Renowned musical innovator Jhelisa has made a powerful return with the release of her new single, Purpose Love, available now on Dorado Records across all platforms. The release includes the full nine-minute version, an acoustic two-minute Lovers Edit, and a four-minute condensed version.

A Musical Odyssey: Purpose Love

Purpose Love is a mesmerizing sonic journey that opens with the arresting lyric: “You are the beauty that lives within the madness, Purpose Love.” Carried by Jhelisa’s deeply seductive and spiritually potent vocals, the track weaves a tapestry of layered harmonies, blues-infused brass horns, hypnotic rhythms, jazz flute and saxophone, energetic percussion, and the haunting drone of a didgeridoo. The result is a genre-defying opus that crescendos into an electrifying climax, blending soul, jazz, and spiritual intensity.

Jhelisa describes the track as a “motivating manifesto,” aiming to counter the chaos of modern life with a celebration of love and connection. “This song is my proclamation,” she said. “It’s an invocation of love’s power to generate a positive energy in the face of violence, ignorance, and confusion. My hope is that Purpose Love sparks a Love Revolution.”

Celebrating 30 Years of Galactica Rush

The release coincides with the 30th anniversary of Jhelisa’s groundbreaking debut album, Galactica Rush, which has been remastered in Hi-Res Audio and cut at half speed for vinyl by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios. Originally released in 1994, Galactica Rush earned widespread critical acclaim and is hailed as a landmark in neo-soul, jazz-funk, and trip-hop.

A Legacy of Musical Innovation

Mississippi-born Jhelisa, dubbed the “Cosmic Princess of Soul” by GQ, has spent her career defying musical boundaries. A member of a legendary musical lineage, she is the niece of James Brown collaborators Vicki Anderson and Bobby Byrd, and the cousin of Carleen and Bartlett Anderson. Over four solo albums, Jhelisa has traversed genres from soul and gospel to avant-garde experimentations, earning collaborations with icons like Björk, Massive Attack, Herbie Hancock, and Chaka Khan.

Her return to the spotlight has been celebrated by fans and critics alike. Gilles Peterson hailed her surprise 2022 release, Oxygen, as “extraordinarily brilliant.” Now, with Purpose Love, Jhelisa continues her mission to inspire and uplift through music.

Behind the Scenes: A Global Collaboration

Purpose Love was a year-long endeavor, co-produced by Jhelisa and longtime collaborator Jono Podmore. The track features contributions from a global roster of musicians, including Finn Peters on flute and saxophone, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Chocolat Costa, and trombonist Chenitha Reddick.

As Jhelisa continues work on her fifth studio album, Wild Orbits, set for release in 2025, Purpose Love stands as a testament to her enduring artistry and relevance.

Listen to Purpose Love now and join Jhelisa’s call for a Love Revolution.
