Dierks Bentley Captures Sunrise Magic in One-Take Video for “Standing in the Sun”

Just outside of Nashville, as the morning fog rolled over the hills, Dierks Bentley stood on his Tennessee farm with nothing but a guitar and a sunrise. No crew. No cuts. Just one take.
That’s how he chose to unveil “Standing in the Sun,” the luminous new track from his upcoming 11th studio album Broken Branches (out June 13). Filmed in a single shot as dawn broke behind him, the video is a quiet but powerful reminder of what country music can still do when it puts soul over spectacle.
“This one wasn’t mine to write,” Bentley admits, referring to songwriter Kyle Sturrock. “But I felt it from the first line. It’s love, just… how I feel it. No frills.”
What follows is a stripped-down performance that builds in both emotion and sound, mirroring the natural progression of daybreak. A soft acoustic intro swells into full-bodied warmth, Bentley’s gravel-and-gold vocals anchoring each lyric with the kind of earned conviction only time can bring. “It sonically builds to feel like a sunrise,” he says. “It ties right back into the lyric.”
And that’s exactly the vibe of Broken Branches—an album that finds beauty in imperfection, in time-worn wisdom, and in the outliers that give country music its soul. With collaborations from Miranda Lambert, John Anderson, and Riley Green, it’s Bentley embracing the genre’s past while shaping its present, celebrating the misfits, the heartbroken, and the hopeful.
As the Broken Branches Tour kicks off May 29, Bentley’s fans will hear the new tracks live—alongside his 22 No. 1 hits and a catalog that’s earned him nine billion streams and 15 Grammy nods. But for now, all you need is a guitar, a sunrise, and a song that sounds like the truth.
