Noel Gallagher Calls Kanye A Buffoon & Says He Needs Buying A Dictionary
Noel Gallagher has never been well known for mincing his words and he does not seem to have mellowed at all with age. In a recent interview, the former Oasis star pulled no punches when talking about Kanye West’s recent stage invasion at the Grammy Awards where West exclaimed that Beck, who won the award for Best Album, should make way for a “real artist”. He was referring to Beyoncé.
Kanye is of course notable for his own considerable contributions to the music industry, including the video for his song “Bound 2” which featured his talented wife Kim Kardashian and provided endless YouTube fodder for parody video makers including Seth Rogen and James Franco.
Gallagher wasted no time in making his feelings about Kanye known and was quoted as saying: "I'm aware of our mate Kanye being a bit of a buffoon.
"Didn't he say Beck should 'respect artistry' and pass the award on to Beyoncé? Somebody should buy that boy a dictionary. And he needs to look up the f**king term 'artistry' and then see if it reminds him, in any way, of Beyoncé.
"If shaking your ass for a living is considered art, then she's right up there, no?"
Beyoncé herself has become much more than merely an artist in her own right since the disbandment of her former group Destiny’s Child. Along with husband Jay-Z, what she has become transcends the title of “artist” and can be more accurately described by calling her a “business” and business is booming.
Beyoncé has become one of only a handful of artists that have turned their hands to other ventures and subsequently has turned herself into a brand which covers everything from perfume right down to the music.
Although Gallagher could have put his point across more eloquently, he does have a point. At this point in her career, musical output could almost become secondary for Beyoncé. If she were never to have another hit single again it probably wouldn’t bother her because she has her fingers in so many other proverbial pies that she would barely notice. She almost doesn’t have to worry about the quality of her music because the brand that is Beyoncé will endure.
Of course none of this necessarily backs up the argument for Beyoncé’s level of artistry but it does point to her being extremely clever and the average pop music subscriber demands a full package for their idols. This also sadly points to an almost dumbing down in an industry where little is left to the imagination.
Part of what Gallagher seems to be describing as “artistry” is what is implied rather than being blatantly obvious. When Beyoncé is on stage “shaking her ass”, nothing is left to the imagination and that is the sad reality of what consumers want.
