Kanye West is not the most modest of people and a new product created by three brothers will certainly serve to inflate his ego. The Book of Yeezus was created initially as a joke by a group of brothers hoping to make an ironic comment on modern society the superstars it champions.

The item in question is currently being sold on Etsy and its description says: “Each generation champions a superstar, so consistently relevant that they come to accompany that generation through its evolution, being a part of and ultimately shaping its identity. Such past icons have been the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, or Michael Jackson. For this generation, Generation Y, Kanye West is not only its greatest spectacle, but in some senses, a spiritual figure.”

It goes on to say “What if the Bible, the most singularly significant publication in the ancient canon of Western tradition, were updated to reflect our modern society? What would it look like? What we came up with was an interventionist art, coffee-table novelty that will appeal to both Kanye fans everywhere and those made curious by this enormous cultural phenomenon. 

At its simplest, it is the book of Genesis, modified to feature “Kanye” or “Yeezus” in the place of God or Y---A. “In the beginning Kanye created the heaven and the earth… And Kanye said, Let there be light: and there was light.””

On the surface, the book seems like a fan-made item to spread the word of the significance of Mr West but in truth, what they are doing by marketing this item is far more significant. The item’s description says that the book’s foreword looks at “consumerist, quick-fix, and information-culture”. In reality, the whole item seems to be one big laugh at the expense of Kanye.

The self professed “Yeezus” has done all he can to style himself as this great and almost divine figure, rather modestly drawing a parallel between himself and Jesus. This book is simply using his own deluded construct and giving it a novelty value which has turned out to be very appealing to the Etsy browsing public.

Now that the Book of Yeezus has become so popular, it’s probably only a matter of time before Kanye tries to sue the book’s creators for using the lord’s name in vain. He’s just mad he didn’t come up with it first.
