Irish singer-songwriter Megan O'Neill recently shared her song 'Ireland' as a soft release on Facebook, and since then it's racked up over 200K views across all channels to date. Plus, it's even caught the eye of Olivia Newton-John.
Although it wasn't initially planned, Megan decided to release it amidst the turmoil of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, as she felt it was a fitting time to share the song. The inspiration for 'Ireland' came from Megan missing her home country whilst living in London for seven years. As such, it seems the song and video have become somewhat of an anthem and reminder for others missing Ireland too. It especially strikes a chord for the Irish people unable to come home or visit their family during the Coronavirus lockdown.
The video for the song features magnificent Irish countryside and views, switching with clips of Megan performing her captivating acoustic number. The footage of the video matches the track perfectly and her stunning vocals cut through when the chorus kicks in. The 900 comments increasing by the day match this very sentiment, the most recent being;
"Hello, Megan! I just listened to your beautiful song... I have been way from my beautiful home for 50 years this month. Your words are sooo true! I love your lovely soft voice and THANKS so much for sharing this wonderful song with us... Slan agus beannacht. Maeve from the midlands"
Olivia Newton-John was amongst 2.3K who shared the video with the following message:
"I heard this song last summer while I was visiting Ireland. Megan O'Neill played it live in Mick Murphy's pub in Ballymore Eustace and I loved it! Now it has been added to the RTÉ Radio 1 Playlist. I'd love to hear it on air if you can play it - The Ryan Tubridy Show"
Like most musicians, Megan has been particularly affected by the Coronavirus restrictions, as all her shows got cancelled this year. However, she has been using the lockdown period to stream shows, write songs and release music — this seems to be a great success.
At the end of last year we covered Megan's London gig here. You can watch her 'Ireland' video on Facebook.
I hope it makes you smile and makes you proud of your home too"
