Nashville based country star Michaela Anne was part of the lineup of the AmericanaFest, which took part in London this week.
We caught up with the artist on Wednesday when she performed at the Oslo in Hackney.
One of my favorites of the Festival, her catchy songs delivered with a real traditional country twang drew me in straight away. Performing with an electric guitar, Michaela delivered an impressive set backed up by prominent pedal steel guitar, which rang through her powerful yet angelic voice. In a gap between songs Michaela stated that the rest of the musicians performing with her (bass, drums, pedal steel) were actually British - all of which seemed great musicians in their own right too.
Performing various lyrically rich stories, her songs covered a range of personal topics with plenty of wit, grit and humour thrown in.Throughout her set she held a great stage presence - it almost looked effortless to her, she really seemed at ease in this Honky-tonk style setting. The general sound wouldn’t go a miss several decades back either - as a younger artist this could come as a surprise to some listeners.
Michaela moved to Nashville in 2014 from New York. Initially, her music focus was jazz but found the genre not too fitting. Once settling in Nashville she could develop on the style of music she really wanted to progress with.
Now it seems it’s really paying off for her. Currently touring extensively across Europe and the USA, Michaela is beginning to establish her name in the scene. In addition, she has also drawn positive reviews from The New York Times and Rolling Stone. Bob Harris from BBC Radio2 has also recently been playing her duet "One Love Song" (feat. Sam Outlaw).
