The Jonas Brothers’ continue their streak of romance-filled hits in their latest song ‘Five More Minutes’. The brothers have always been maestros when it comes to crooning about heartbreak, lovesickness, and juvenile infatuation, yet there is something about that territory of sound that continues to endear them to their massive legion of fans.

It helps that both Nick and Joe Jonas have completely distinct vocal styles that complement each other to the tee. Nick thrives in the high-pitched, slow-paced melodies that tease a bit of sweetness and sentiment, whereas Joe goes for a lower-pitched style that oozes with sex appeal and flirtatiousness. Seeing how this particular composition contains equal parts charm and sensuality, it’s appropriate to have both Nick and Joe get their separate verses to explore their flights of fancy.

Stylistically, it could be classified as an adult contemporary number but the sharp bass chords as well as the subtle but crisp synth layerings that chime in at the chorus render it a solid example of pop-alternative rock as well. The Jonas Brothers’ have registered one of the strongest comebacks in recent years and it seems as though they’re not slowing down anytime soon. ‘Five More Minutes’ flourishes in its saccharine scope, but both Nick and Joe Jonas’s voices are so infectious and irresistible that it’s almost a surefire that the pre-chorus verse will lodge itself into the listener’s mind for the weeks to come. The instrumental arrangement as a whole is quite refreshing, and the slow tempo does allow for a fun, reflective atmosphere.

Fans would be hoping that the Jonas Brothers have a new album in the works but so far this song has been announced as part of a two-track EP called XV. The brothers have confirmed that they will go back to working on their sixth studio album when the coronavirus pandemic recedes a bit, but for the time being, they’re keening on getting their fans through this troublesome time with their delightful sound.

Speaking on this particular tune, Kevin Jonas said, “I think 'Five More Minutes' is one of my favourite songs in this body of work that we have. It was written at our writing camp when we went away as a group with all of our friends and it's just fantastic. It feels good, it's an amazing song."
