Kygo & OneRepublic Are A Winning Combo In Pop Magic ‘Lose Somebody’

Kygo and OneRepublic are pop perfection in their latest collaboration ‘Lose Somebody’. For starters, Kygo’s production is kept simplistic but driven, and the rest is taken care of by OneRepublic’s frontman Ryan Tedder.
OneRepublic already has this fantastic ability at infusing every single feature into an emotional whirlwind. Tedder has one of the finest male voices in the industry and it’s a shame that he doesn’t get the credit he should for being one of the most brilliant songwriters of his generation. But sometimes collaborations such as this are a good reminder of the talent that exists in the industry and how artists from different backgrounds and genres can come together to create something magical and powerful.
The melody is fuelled by sharp and crisp chords on the piano and the arrangement only gets appropriately dramatic in the chorus. It’s at that point when the percussive beats begin ramping up, and Tedder’s vocals begin flying through those high notes. There is a truly magical quality to how the piano chimes in following the chorus, and Tedder’s vocal echoes take on another dimension as he muses about losing love and heartache. It’s a topic that’s been covered thousands of times before but Tedder’s voice is so feather-light and emphatic that it does the trick and you will find yourself getting fully immersed by the bridge. Kygo’s contribution may seem minimal by the end but there are subtitle additions layered throughout the track that will make you appreciate his mastery. It especially comes through in the bridge, a segment that’s primarily instrumental. The synth and vocal riffs flow together beautifully, and it establishes a modern, sentimental but safe atmosphere that remains relatable but meaningful.
The collaboration is to be featured in Kygo’s upcoming album ‘Golden Hour’. Kygo has already announced that the album is up for pre-order but the date itself hasn’t been confirmed. The Norwegian DJ also mentioned that 18 tracks will be put together for this much-awaited album, though he’s kept his collaborations hidden. If the other tunes are as appealing and breathtaking as this one, then we’re sure that fans have a lush, glamorous album to look forward to this summer.
