US metal newcomers Tetrarch have stormed back into our ears with their new release “I’m Not Right.” It’s been three years since their 2017 debut album “Freak” dropped and alerted us to these incredibly talented metal fledglings.

Originally formed in Atlanta, the quartet have since relocated to their new base in Los Angeles. Although they’ve been around for three years, Tetrarch still manage to feel like a very new band, insofar as their songs all have a beautiful originality to them.

“I’m Not Right” is the first single from their forthcoming second album “Unstable.” A very worthy first release that has eager fans massively anticipating release of the full album. The track has a raw, beastly power to it. We hear a mix of clean and dirty vocals blended to perfection to give the piece an additional fine layer.

The lyrics are angsty and filled with self-loathing. Deprecating. Guilt-ridden almost, with an enormous dose of self-directed anger and fear. The accompanying video shows a young girl being horribly bullied by school peers, giving us that extra dimension of emotional rage to ensure we really feel every single aspect of the song.

The current line-up of Josh Fore (vocals, guitar), Diamond Rowe (lead guitar), Ryan Lerner (bass) and Ruben Limas (drums) have a lot to be proud of with this one. Not only do the lyrics speak deeply to us, but the music that acts as the platform for the track’s message is technical mastery. It’s heavy with a slight techy quality to it. Tetrarch’s edgy and fearless style is dark and gothic, but also somehow whimsical and fantastic. They truly have mastered the art of the use of influence without replication. Inspiration without imitation are swiftly becoming the band’s trademark.

Tetrarch are fast proving themselves to have the potential to be a major metal mainstay, with all those elusive qualities that makes a truly great band being undeniably present. This song in particular gives us that rare blend of new musical energy and effortless reimagining of their influences, all driven by pure talent and irrepressible drive.
