David Gilmour is an industry titan. He has a career spanning well over sixty years now, being a part of Pink Floyd and highly regarded as one of the greatest guitar players to ever exist.

His mind works so far beyond what a guitar is expected to do, and in doing so makes his instrument feel more so like a voice than an instrument. Regardless of that, he has been at the mic on most of Pink Floyd’s greatest hits, such as Money, Comfortably Numb, and Wish You Were Here, and his voice is as beautiful as his playing. All that is present in Yes, I Have Ghosts, a collaborative song between Gilmour and his daughter, and the composition as a whole might be the most wholesome song ever composed.

Anyone with empathy in their hearts could easily tell that this is Gilmour’s daughter singing with him. Not because of her soothing voice that mirrors her father’s, but rather because of the bond that is ever so strong in this song. You can truly feel a sense of appreciation and collaboration between the two when their voices tangle, one that goes far deeper than colleagues or bandmates ever would. In this track, Gilmour sports a classical guitar, which isn’t too standard of him to do so, and that only adds to the beauty of the arrangement cradling David and Romany’s voices. He wanders on the fretboard like the pro that he’s grown to become over his long career. His deep voice is a perfect, nostalgic contrast to the strings and guitar playing behind, and all that is topple with Romany’s haunting harmonies. Her voice is simple in the most perfect way, and the support she gives the melody would warm even the coldest hearts.

It would only take one listen for someone to fall in love with this song. Fans of Pink Floyd will especially appreciate this, as the song feels like a nice nod to Gilmour’s past in spirit, but this is very much not a Pink Floyd song. This is exactly as it should be, and proves that Gilmour can continue to shine even nearly thirty years after Pink Floyd’s last album, Division Bell. David came back into the spotlight shortly when The Endless River, a compilation album of outtakes from the aforementioned album, was released back in 2014. Yes, I Have Ghosts is a great return for the legend, and will captivate fans and new listeners alike.
