Up and coming Moroccan Canadian singer / songwriter Faouzia has joined forces with American pop and RnB artists John Legend and Charlie Puth to create a stunning new track, “Minefields.” The single dropped this week and is already receiving rave reviews and the praise of fans everywhere.

Written by Faouzia, Sam Martin, Ali Tamposi and J Kash, the piece is a beautiful ballad, with deeply emotive lyrics guaranteed to stir something in everyone. Puth’s performance on piano feels like the ideal backdrop for the soft and tender tune, with Faouzia and Legend’s vocals soaring majestically above.

You can really hear the powerful vibrato and masterful control of Faouzia’s voice, which is complimented beautifully by Legend’s smooth baritone. These are two artists that pair perfectly together, with their vocals carrying the artful lyrics effortlessly throughout the entire track.

Despite the intricate beauty of the song, if you listen closely, you will hear that it is actually about a rather difficult and furious love affair. The “Minefields” the duo sing of navigating are those endured when constantly striving to be close to one you love, who is perhaps not the best choice of mate. It is a message many listeners will be able to relate to and manages to be as heartbreaking as it is beautiful.

The sharp contrast of the soft music and gently powerful vocals against the harsh and sometimes even brutal lyrics is just glorious to hear. It feels like a love song, and it is. But it is a love song filled with realism, doubt, fear, and a constant questioning of whether it is the right thing. Whether trying to fight through the “Minefields” is worth it, but the heart fervently insisting that it is, thus setting the course for the tale this song tells.

This is an example of a pop collaboration at its finest. Each artist blended in an ideal harmony to create a piece of work that is far larger than the sum of its parts. The track is stronger for each of the three main performers involved, with all adding to its overall brilliance and taking nothing away. Give this one a listen today.
