Rising UK R&B star James Vickery has turned his attention to a deeply relatable subject with his new single Somewhere, Out There. Vickery, who is set to release his debut album later this year, has just dropped his new track, and it’s a sweet and tender take on the pain lockdown has caused, particularly for lovers forced to seperate.

Vickery, who turned heads with his COLORS session in 2018 which amassed millions of online views, infuses the track with his distinctive smooth feel, and the production courtesy of Maths Time Joy beautifully complements the slick beat and Vickery’s soulful, buttery vocals.

Amazingly, the South Londoner was born deaf in one ear, but that hasn’t stopped his meteoric rise. He’s already played headline shows at the likes of The Jazz Cafe in London, The Echo in Los Angeles, and New York’s Rough Trade, and he’s signed record and publishing deals with LA-based TH3RD BRAIN and RocNation. His ‘Live From London’ series, which sees him perform with a full band in a variety of unique venues across his hometown, has proved immensely popular with fans.

With two critically acclaimed EPs (Until Morning and Overture) already his belt and collaborations with big names including Kenny Beats, SG Lewis and Sinead Harnett, Vickery is continuing to work on that hotly anticipated full length release, which is penciled for May, and will include Somewhere, Out There.

Writing on his official Facebook page about why he chose to release this track now, he said: “There was a specific reason I requested to release this song NOW and make it be the first song off the debut album. Lockdowns in the UK have left me with an immense sense of loneliness and hoping that someone is out there looking back at me, I’m writing this for any lonely hearts struggling during Covid-19 and also anyone being kept apart from their significant others at this tough time. “I hope this brings you some light in a very dark space – I wrote this song for you.”
