In honor of 70s discos, Paris Jackson has partnered with hard rock legends The Struts with their newest, catchy single, Low Key in Love.
Ever since Mike Oldfield’s Nuclear, The Struts have been on my radar. The band’s vocalist absolutely blessed the song, and it led me to their discography, which absolutely blew me away. When I heard that not only did they have a new single out, but that they partnered with Paris Jackson, who released her first project late last year to critical acclaim, my heart skipped a beat. Never in a million years would I have pictured Paris Jackson having a feature with the Struts, but I was very pleasantly surprised the moment I hit play on the track. They blend in the tone and feel of 70s and 80s pop, with a very modern approach to it. Especially with the words “low key” included in both the title and the chorus, it gives it a twist that contemporaries don’t quite possess. The melodies soar beautifully with the chords, especially in the choruses where Paris and Luke Spiller intertwine in gorgeous harmony. Both of them have such unique vocal styles, especially Spiller who has a Freddie Mercury resemblance in his tone. The bluesy twang sprinkled in the latter half of the chorus was a pleasant surprise filling in a tune that is a surprise to begin with, really.
At the end of the day, Low Key in Love not only serves as a wonderful pop-infused tune for the British rockers, but it also shows Paris Jackson in a whole new light. Still in her nostalgic/retro vibe that she had all throughout wilted, it’s very different from anything she’s ever made regardless. Low Key in Love is a fantastic song that’s just a whole lot of fun from start to finish, and makes me extremely excited for Paris Jackson’s career, even more so than before.
