In one of the most ambitious and unexpected collaborations of all time, Earth Wind & Fire, Lucky Daye, and Babyface put their talents together to rework and modernize the first’s classic song “Can’t Hide Love” under the new name “You Want My Love”.

Earth Wind & Fire are inarguably one of the most important groups music has ever seen. The impact they’ve had on all genres of music is obvious; there’s a reason why to this day kids sing along to “September” decades after the song left the charts. Their music is timeless, easily appreciable by fans of any genre. They’re one of the rare phenomena where fans of any music gather together and jam to their classics. With that being said, a modern take on their classic songs would certainly be welcomed under the right hands. Luckily, what the band, Babyface and Lucky Daye have done with “Can’t Hide Love '' is tear jerkingly beautiful. The new life put into the song in the form of trap drums, 808s, all paired with the classic horn punches, the harmonies and even the voice of Maurice White at one point is a gift to us listeners. All that is without even considering Lucky Daye’s performance on this song, which is absolutely mind blowing. He embodies the soul of the original all while propelling its ideas in modern melodies and performance. Filling Maurice White’s shoes is already a hard feat, but not only did he do the late legend proper justice, he made sure not to step on his toes by incorporating his own style into the classic. The groove of the original is as strong as ever in this rendition, all thanks to the love that was put into this reimagining.

You Want My Love does not replace, nor does it intend to, which is why I believe it was deliberately renamed. People stumbling on this song totally unaware of the original won’t be left in the dark here, this is a wonderful realization of the original vision Earth Wind & Fire intended into the modern world. Lucky Daye sings the funk performance of a lifetime in this recording, all with the polish and production of Babyface. It’s a wonderful track through and through, standing beautifully alongside the original.
