Review: Eleanor Rigby – Cody Fry

Continuing from the momentum gained from his Tik Tok-famous songs, such as Photograph, and I Hear a Symphony, Cody Fry releases the most epic cover of Eleanor Rigby to ever exist.
Just when the world thought Jacob Collier was already too much talent to handle in one planet, Cody Fry flexed his musical fingers and proved himself one of the greatest musicians of our generation. Already his two latest albums, Fly and Pictures of Mountains, have been some of the most brilliantly composed works of music in decades, and Eleanor Rigby just shows that “limit” is not a word Cody Fry is familiar with. Not only is it epic in its instrumentation, featuring a full orchestra, in its execution, taking many liberties to further empower the melodies, it also just so happens to feature an 800-person orchestra, featuring fans of the artist who submitted their own voices for the composition. Everything about this song is huge, which serves the tune right.
To be completely transparent, Eleanor Rigby has always been my favorite Beatles song since I was just a child, and so when I heard one of my favorite artists took on the task to cover the song, I was intrigued. It’s hard to properly do justice to the Beatles, but if there was anyone capable of it, it would be Cody Fry. This song blew even my ridiculously high expectations totally out of the water and into the stratosphere. The expression of harmony is beyond next-level, it’s divine. Sacred. The way Cody Fry expresses counter-melody and dynamics are on par with some of Hollywood’s greatest composers (especially with the tune’s incredibly strong John Williams inspirations). If this song doesn’t land him a dozen scoring gigs, I will be the first to start a mob.
Eleanor Rigby, as interpreted by Cody Fry, is a true work of art. It’s an adventure from the moment it begins to its last chord, one that leaves wanting more. It will keep listeners invested in his career as he continues to make some of the greatest music of our generation, without a single doubt.
PS: I meant to send in a line for the song and didn’t make the deadline. You better do another one of these, Cody, I need to participate!
