Rereleased as part of a single, the ballad of Coldplay’s newest album, ‘Music of the Spheres’, makes rounds again, as ‘Let Somebody Go’ finds another way to find itself in your hearts thanks to the British group and Selena Gomez.

The song is led by a warm Rhodes keyboard that hums its way through all the various chord changes. Everything else that follows is built upon it, be it the subtle rhythm, the elegant synth pads, and even the vocals. Chris Martin opens the first verse with his unique voice, then giving room to Selena to have her entrance. The two begin harmonizing with one another, showcasing the world how wonderfully their two voices mesh together. Something about the raw feel of Chris’ voice mixed with Selena’s refined and silky chops creates something truly beautiful. At the latter half of the song, after the song has had time to brew, the instrumentation explodes following piano punches foreshadowing the switch up. The song feels huge, with electric instruments keeping up with the feeling that preceded it, albeit with a climactic feel. There’s an epic sense of finality just as the part arrives, with soaring vocals to match the energy. Electric guitars strumming slightly distorted chords, with slamming snares that echo wide, and more plucking guitars to widen the horizons even deeper. The synths then give breathing room for the part to recover, bringing the song to one final chorus in the same style as before, with the Rhodes leading ahead, then bringing the song to a poetic close.

‘Let Somebody Go’, both as an essential member of a story told through music in ‘Music of the Spheres’ and as a single is a wonderful experience in or out of context. Coldplay are a powerhouse when it comes to making electrifying, energizing songs, but ‘Let Somebody Go’ is a wonderful display of the product that is born when the UK-legends take a step back to explore a softer side of their creativity.
