The infamous nu metal band are back with an album hilariously titled Still Sucks, and the opening track is enough to turn a whole new generation into Limp Bizkit fans.

Let’s face it, if you were part of the rock and metal scene of the early 2000s, you most likely made fun of Limp Bizkit at some point. The goofy grooves, strange stage appearances, and the constant comparison to bands like Slipknot and Korn made Limp Bizkit an unfortunate butt of the joke at times. Still, their fanbase was and continues to be devoted, though that very devotion was tested when the band went silent for nearly a decade, teasing a new record on the way time and time again. After a total makeover from Fred Durst, the band finally released the album that kept fans waiting for so long. The news made such a buzz that the rock and metal stratosphere pretty much collectively came together to celebrate the infamous band’s return. With the record out, how does it fare?

The first track, Out of Style, opens with a guitar riff that sets up the ground work through a thick layer of reverb. Shortly after, a crescendo overtakes it, with a classic ‘HIT IT’ from Durst, and the song explodes into one of the heaviest, grooves, and most interesting guitar riffs ever. The groove is so strong it’ll make you test the durability of your speakers, no doubt. After rocking for a few measures, the song goes back to that intro riff where Fred sings his way through the chord progression. The energy keeps building, knowing what’s to come. Again, that blasting riff barges in, this time with Durst on the mic to give it even more context. The catchy lyrics will surely get stuck in your head, especially coupled with that memorable riff. The song eventually goes to a very melodic bridge that repeats a couple times in the song, perfectly contrasting the build-up nature of the verse and the beat-down feel of the chorus. And finally, the song perfectly comes to a close.

Out of Style is one of the greatest album openers metal has seen in a very long time, especially with so much weight and expectations going into the experience of ‘Still Sucks’. The album, and more directly that song alone, has surely created many new Limp Bizkit fans, and converted many nay-sayers into followers. It just simply kicks ass.
