Review: Aries latest song “SNAKE EYES”

“SNAKE EYES” is the first single released by Aries since his triumphant sophomore album, BELIEVE IN ME, WHO BELIEVES IN YOU, released back in 2021. Aries has amassed a sort of cult following in the last few years, built off of his unique take on genre fusion between Hip-Hop, contemporary Pop, and a little secret sauce somewhere in the middle. “SNAKE EYES” is no different. With thunderous guitars, incredibly catchy yet soothing melodies, and masterfully arranged production and mixing, this song offers its listeners just over 2 minutes of song length, but a lifetime of replay. “SNAKE EYES” is frankly, quite addicting. Aries pulls no punches with well written verses and an impeccable hook. It was produced by Aries and his two talented friends, Wyatt Otis and Pharaoh Vice. It was written and engineered by Aries as well. “SNAKE EYES” was released independently through DistroKid, a great tool that many up and coming artists utilize to distribute their work.
In this song, Aries describes the complexities of love and the pursuit of it. He describes it as almost venomous and addictive, yet fulfilling. The second verse describes his shallow relationships with people while “the one” that he really wants, is elsewhere. The hook works as a great way to convey the desperation he feels towards this specific person. It’s a wonderful love song in all the best ways. It doesn’t romanticize the pursuit of love without exploring all the tribulations that are tied to it.
“SNAKE EYES” remains just as inventive as Aries’ previous works. The most mind-boggling aspect of his music is that he offers listeners something completely new and fresh, yet manages to have mass mainstream appeal. Beyond that, he’s able to craft a unique pocket of musical melting pots while still making each song stand out from the last. The phrase, “nothing new under the sun” doesn’t seem to apply to Aries. It would be untruthful to say that Aries has no trademark consistencies in his work, however. “SNAKE EYES” makes use of Aries’ signature beat drops with thumping drums and a nice blend of live instrumentation with synthesized production.
In the hook, Aries proclaims that he wants to “stay for a while,” and I hope he always does and never leaves. Songs like “SNAKE EYES” and albums like BELIEVE IN ME, WHO BELIEVES IN YOU are the reason why everytime Aries offers us something new, I will always be first in line.
