American alternative rock trio Dogstar are back and have just released their first album in 23 years. Their third studio album, “Somewhere Between the Powerlines and Palm Trees,” features 12 brand new tracks, and the moment you start listening, you realise just how much we have all missed them.
Their first two albums were brilliant, and when they broke up in 2002, fans lamented and feared it was the end. And for a long time, it was. It turns out, destiny had other plans for these guys and the COVID-19 pandemic would see them reunite.
While they had kept in touch and had regular jam sessions, the lockdowns meant they ended up spending a good deal of time in quarantine, together. All-day rehearsals and jams evolved into writing what would become “Somewhere Between the Powerlines and Palm Trees.” Their inspiration was the dream of playing live shows again.
“When creating this record, we were so excited about the idea of playing it live.”
While Dogstar enjoyed moderate success in their early days, the majority of this was due to bassist Keanu Reeves, being insanely famous for his film work. But Reeves is also a brilliant musician and songwriter, as are his bandmates, Robert Mailhouse (drums, vocals) and Bret Domrose (lead guitar, lead vocals).
Whatever the reason for checking out Dogstar in the first place, the fans have come to recognise the immense musical talent and unique view of the world these guys present. Their songs have always been amazing, and this latest release is no exception.
We have already been tempted by the lead single, “Everything Turns Around,” and while this gave us a peek into the album, it has barely scratched the surface of how wonderful the entire offering is.
Dogstar will also be hitting the road on tour to promote their new album, heading across North America and to Japan. Check out their website for the dates and do yourself a favour and go and see these guys live if you can. The album is wonderful, but to truly enjoy Dogstar as intended, you need to see them in the flesh.
“Somewhere Between the Powerlines and Palm Trees” is available on all streaming platforms. You can also head to their website https://www.dogstarofficial.com/ and get yourself a CD and vinyl copy. And while you are there, don’t forget to check out their impressive range of merchandise. T-shirts, hats, bags, drink bottles, keyrings, and more!
