Cosima Olu has just released a new song titled “Ocean”—and you should definitely give it a listen. Here are a few quick reasons why:

  • Cosima consistently makes beautiful music.

  • She’s been dropping bangers since 2015.

  • You can feel the love and intention in every track.
  • Some of my personal favourites from her catalog are “Cartoon” and “behold”, and her album “magnolia” is a full-body experience. Her latest track Ocean is no exception—it’s unmistakably Cosima. She weaves smooth, immersive sounds together, blending ocean waves with melodic flutes, groovy drums, and airy synth chords in the chorus. There’s even a touch of orchestral flair with some trumpet accents. The final 35 seconds of the track give off a vibe that reminds me of Snarky Puppy—textured, rich, and unexpected.

If you're into artists like Erykah Badu, Sabrina Claudio, Lauryn Hill, or Sade, I think you’ll really vibe with Cosima. I love drawing comparisons between artists, not to box them in, but to highlight the quality and mood of their work—and Cosima’s music sits comfortably among the greats. Her R&B sound is polished, soulful, and deserves way more attention.

Ocean is one of those songs that becomes better with every listen. It’s relaxed, atmospheric, and perfect for a long road trip—the kind where you feel like you’re floating across the highway (while staying fully focused, of course). For reference, I often play Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On when I’m on the road, and Ocean would definitely fit into that same mellow driving playlist.

I’m not sure where Cosima is headed next, but I’m hoping a new album is on the horizon. Until then, go spin some of her tracks—you won’t regret it.
