A new web application for use with Chrome has been announced by Emma Turpin from Google Creative Lab. The app named JAM with Chrome allows users to play music but not just that. It essentially gives users the ability to play music with their friends who are also using Chrome to browse the internet, creating virtual bands in real time.

It's apparently very user friendly and easy to pick up as well. There is a choice between 19 instruments including drums, keyboards and bass guitars and also tutorials on how you can play each.

There are two different modes that you can also use; easy and pro. In easy mode you are able to experiment with each of the instruments and can play around with four different autoplay functions. In pro mode, in addition to all this, there is the ability to navigate multiple instruments using the keyboard.

It's a great way to get friends together as up to four people can play together at the same time. So in theory, users can create their own virtual bands and practice together without ever actually meeting.

Technically, JAM with Chrome is cutting edge as it uses the very latest modern web technologies including HTML 5 elements such as WebSockets, Canvas and CSS3.

According to Turpin, Chrome is experimenting and JAM with Chrome acts as one such platform for their experimentations.

What is certain is that in addition to JAM with Chrome, some exciting applications are going to become available for the web browser very soon.
