Shayne Ward Blames Simon Cowell for Flagging Pop Career
- in Latest
Winner of the 2005 series of the X Factor Shayne Ward has admitted that he thinks the reason his pop career has failed is because Simon Cowell didn't give him enough attention, instead focusing on the careers of Leona Lewis and Susan Boyle.
Ward had a successful but short lived run in the limelight with his first single "That's My Goal" becoming the third fastest selling single of all time but he was dropped by his record label when his third album failed to make the top ten.
Speaking out to The Sun about his disappointment that Cowell didn't give his career more attention, Ward said: "I'd be lying if I said it was fine - I'd have liked more attention.
"People have got to remember that the label took me away for three years. That three years didn't do me any favors.
"I lost a large fanbase and released my Obsession album and before I knew it, I wasn't with a label."
He continued by admitting that he holds no bitterness over his decline: "I don't see the point in being bitter.
"Let's just say better decisions could have been made on certain things. I'm very happy with what I achieved with the time I had with the label."
Ward is currently in the middle of a stint on Dancing On Ice in the hopes that it will revive his career by propelling him back into the limelight and having sailed through the first week of public votes, it's looking good for him.
He has also recently publicly given James Arthur the benefit of of his experience telling him: "My advice to him... Just learn as much as you can from the get go. It's easy to have the wrong type of people around you."
