Second Inquest Confirms Amy Winehouse's Death Was Alcohol Related
- in Latest
Another inquest into the late singer Amy Winehouse's death confirms the original verdict that her death was caused by accidental alcohol poisoning.
St Pancras Coroner's Court ruled that Amy died as a result of misadventure.
The second inquest had been ordered after the coroner that had carried out the original, a Dr Andrew Reid handed in his resignation.
Doubts were cast over the validity of Dr Reid's verdict after it emerged that he had hired his wife, Suzanne Greenaway as deputy assistant to carry out the inquest into Winehouse's death despite her being described as "unqualified" for the job. Disciplinary proceedings were bought against Reid resulting in the inquest having to be done again.
Dr Shirley Redcliffe of St Pancras Coroner's Court was quoted by The Sun as stating that Amy died of “alcohol toxicity" with “a level of alcohol commonly associated with fatality”.
Amy's father Mitch Winehouse has publicly slammed the people involved with the original inquest and stated that he would not be attending the second saying: "Firstly the coroner's report was sent to the wrong house up the road from [Amy's mother] Janis... and the bloke who received it tried to sell it.
"Then this cock-up with the chief coroner putting his wife in charge, though she wasn't qualified."
"I'm not putting my family through it again. Right now I'd say I won't go. And the result will be just the same."
