BRIT Award by Damien Hirst Revealed
- in Latest
This year’s BRIT Award statues have been revealed and has met some disappointment because it is not as radical as what people were expecting.
Artist Damien Hirst was bought in to design the statues which are given to the winners of each award and far from being controversial, Hirst decided to adopt a safer, albeit colourful design with them being covered in colourful spots.
He follows in the footsteps of Dame Vivienne Westwood and Sit Peter Blake in reimagining the awards.
Hirst became famous for his use of dead animals including sharks and sheep in his works but thankfully, none of that is evident in the design.
BRITs chairman David Joseph seemed happy with the design saying: "Damien is truly one of the most important British artists. His re-imagining of the statue will make winning a 2013 BRIT an even more special proposition."
Nominations for this year’s award are due to be announced today during a launch event where Tom Odell and Jessie Ware will be performing.
Last year’s award ceremony got people talking after winner Adele was famously booted off the stage to make way for Blur’s performance and she responded with a less than lady-like hand gesture at the show’s organizers.
