Amazon is set to be offering free music downloads along with the purchase of certain CDs from their site.

The service which has been dubbed AutoRip has already been launched in the US and means that customers will also have the MP3 copies of their CDs free of charge.

Songs will be available through Amazon's Cloud service and means that customers will be able to listen to their purchased music instantly, even before the CD ahs been posted.

Thousands of AutoRip tracks are already available including new releases such as Taylor Swift's "Red" but the brilliant thing about the service is that customers can also claim the digital versions of CDs that they have purchased going as far back as 1998.

CEO of Amazon Jeff Bazos said of the service: "What would you say if you bought music CDsl  from a company 15 years ago, and then 15 years later that company licensed the rights from the record companies to give you the MP3 versions of those CDs... and then to top it off, did that for you automatically and for free?

"Well, starting today, it's available to all of our customers - past, present and future - at no cost."

Amazon have not yet announced plans to introduce the service int he UK.
