Beyonce blew audiences away with her performance of "The Star Spangled Banner" at Barack Obama's second inauguration ceremony this week but now has come under fire after being accused of apparently lip-synching the performance.

The claims were made by The TImes newspaper after they spoke to a spokesperson representing the Marine Corp Band who played the music to accompany Beyonce's performance.

They revealed that it was "standard procedure" for performers to mime at such events and that though Beyonce may have wanted to sing live, the organisers were unwilling to let her do so.

Instead of singing live, she apparently sang along to a pre-recorded backing track.

While she was performing, Beyonce was seen tearing her earpiece out which many members of the audience saw as one of the highlights of her performance but now it seems as though it may have bene nothing more than a dramatic gesture to make it look more authentic.

Many other stars attended the event including Katy Perry with John Mayer and another to perform was Kelly Clarkson.

Clarkson said of the performance: "I think it's going to be the coolest thing ever to look back with my grandkids and go: "I was a part of that and I'm proud of that. I'm not ashamed of that."
